Work is performed under the general supervision of the\u00a0 Shift Supervisor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Operators with less than one year service will be required to do the same type of work as is\u00a0 listed below but under the direct supervision of a Shift Supervisor or assisted by another Operator. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work is\u00a0 performed at the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility and various pumping stations located in\u00a0 Harrisburg. Work involves the use of stationary and portable pumps, valves, gates, gauges, meters, 12 ft. &#8211; 25\u00a0 ft. ladders, control panels, log sheets, air compressors and motor vehicles such as trucks required for sludge\u00a0 transportation and disposal. Chemicals such as chlorine, polymers, and ferrous sulfate are used on a day-to day basis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Work also includes the operation of unit processes like thickeners, digesters, clarifies, activated\u00a0 sludge, cogeneration, oxygen distillation, and sludge dewatering. Laboratory analysis is performed on the\u00a0 aforementioned processes to assure its proper operation. Employees are subject to noise and vibration,\u00a0 fumes, odors, toxic conditions, dust, poor ventilation in the work environment, and inclement weather. Safety\u00a0 equipment such as gas detectors, breathing apparatus, harnesses, barricades, tripod, cones, hand-held flags,\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">etc., will be used.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Employees are scheduled on rotating shifts that work days from 7:00 A.M. &#8211; 7:00 P.M., nights\u00a0 from 7:00 P.M. &#8211; 7:00 A.M., weekends and holidays, or on weekdays from 7:00 A.M. &#8211; 3:30 P.M., or 3:30 P.M. \u2013 12:00 A.M. (midnight), with the possibility of being required to fill in for shift working operators as needed.<\/p>\n<p><b>Qualifications and Requirements<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to perform manual work requiring dexterity.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Complete knowledge of processes and equipment.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to perform all required duties.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to react promptly and efficiently in emergencies.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to understand and apply operating techniques.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to assemble data and prepare clear, concise reports.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to operate the plant computer.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to identify and analyze problems and determine remedial action.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to apply knowledge of wastewater treatment and sludge handling to solve practical problems. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to comprehend a wide variety of instructions, equipment literature, and technical\u00a0 publications.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to perform basic arithmetic procedures in standard, practical applications.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to understand and follow instructions, record information, and request supplies and work\u00a0 materials.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to prepare accurate, concise reports dealing with plant operation and maintenance and\u00a0 personnel activity.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to react quickly and appropriately to alarms and hazardous situations.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to pass a respiratory fit test and use an approved respirator.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High school diploma or equivalent.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wastewater courses or related education such as Operation of Wastewater Plants Volumes I, II, III, &amp;\u00a0 IV.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills\u00a0 and abilities.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Valid Pennsylvania Driver&#8217;s License, Class C\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For more information and to apply, go to <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/capitalregionwater.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/capitalregionwater.com<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Position Title: Operator I Department: Wastewater Division\u00a0 Definition\u00a0 This position is responsible to perform skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the Advanced\u00a0 Wastewater Treatment Facility on an assigned shift.
