(May 17, 2021) \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Pennsylvania American Water today announced its 2021 plans to rehabilitate 11 of its water storage tanks and construct seven new structures. Pennsylvania American Water\u2019s tank rehabilitation program of inspecting, sandblasting, and repainting tanks extends their service lives and helps protect water quality. The total cost of the company\u2019s water storage improvements this year is approximately $17 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cStorage tanks are critical to meeting the supply demands of our customers and providing fire protection for our communities,\u201d said Pennsylvania American Water President Mike Doran. \u201cProperly and proactively maintaining tanks benefits our customers because of the cost efficiencies we can achieve by rehabilitating rather than replacing them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the past five years, Pennsylvania American Water has invested more than $40 million to maintain, rehabilitate and construct water storage tanks. This year, the company will rehabilitate and repaint ground storage tanks in the following municipalities:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Baldwin Borough, Allegheny County \u2013 350,000-gallon<\/li>\n<li>Camp Hill Borough, Cumberland County \u2013 2,000,000-gallon<\/li>\n<li>Crystal Lake,\u00a0Luzerne County\u00a0\u2013 1,000,000-gallon<\/li>\n<li>Lower Allen Township, Cumberland County \u2013 3,000,000-gallon<\/li>\n<li>Menallen Township, Fayette County \u2013 1,000,000-gallon<\/li>\n<li>Silver Spring Township, Cumberland County \u2013 430,000-gallon<\/li>\n<li>Sinking Spring, Berks County\u00a0\u2013 250,000-gallon<\/li>\n<li>Union Township, Washington County \u2013 5,000,000-gallon<\/li>\n<li>Union Township, Washington County \u2013 350,000-gallon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To rehabilitate the tanks, crews will strip the original paint and apply a new coating, which serves as a protective barrier that prevents the steel from rusting and impacting water quality.
