It is imperative that laboratories be able to continue their essential core functions when incidents occur that disrupt their normal operation. To ensure continuation of these essential activities, laboratories should have an effective COOP in place.\u00a0This webcast is designed as an introduction to the\u00a0Water Laboratory Alliance (<\/u>WLA) COOP Template, and will cover: \u00a0Rationale for developing the COOP Template, a basic overview of the contents in the COOP Template, a demonstration of how to use the COOP Template\u2019s fillable form, and highlight the value of the COOP Template.<\/p>\n

Releases to Sources of Drinking Water: National Occurrence and Resources to Identify Risks: May 13, 2021, 1:00 – 2:00 PM EDT<\/u><\/p>\n

Spills from storage tanks, transportation accidents, facility discharges and other hazards threaten many drinking water sources. To understand this risk, a study was conducted to assess the frequency of spills impacting sources of drinking water in the U.S. The findings of this study are provided in the report \u201cOccurrence of Releases with the Potential to Impact Sources of Drinking Water.\u201d\u00a0View Report:\u00a0\u00a0https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/waterqualitysurveillance\/resources-assess-risk-source-water-contamination<\/a><\/p>\n

This webinar will review key findings from this report. The webinar will also provide recommendations and information about resources, specifically Drinking Water Mapping Application to Protect Source Water (DWMAPS), that can be used to identify and characterize potential sources of contamination to sources of drinking water. The WLA-RP provides a comprehensive, national approach to coordinated laboratory response incidents requiring additional analytical support than a typical utility or state laboratory can provide.\u00a0 Learning objectives include:\u00a0 Describe the key elements of the WLA-RP (including Water Sector best practices for emergency response), describe the roles that laboratories and others would have when they participate in a response to a water contamination incident, identify EPA Water Security tools, and build relationships between laboratories, water utilities, and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n
