Nationwide day of education, advocacy on value of water is Oct. 21<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

HARRISBURG \u2013 The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) is joining elected officials, water utilities, community leaders, educators, and businesses from across the country on Wednesday, October 21 as part of the sixth annual Imagine a Day Without Water<\/strong>, a nationwide day of education and advocacy about the value of\u00a0water.<\/p>\n

Led by the Value of Water Campaign, \u201cImagine a Day Without Water\u201d provides a platform for educating the public and advocating for leaders to prioritize investing in water today.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Commission is proud to partner with a thousand organizations across the country in raising awareness about not taking water for granted and the crucial need for investment in our nation\u2019s water systems,\u201d said Vice Chairman David W. Sweet.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year, more than ever as communities are dealing with the public health crisis from coronavirus, we see that reliable water service is something we depend on to protect our health and economy. The impacts of a day without water are tremendous, which is why ongoing investment in our drinking water and wastewater systems is a pathway to protecting public health, promoting economic recovery and safeguarding the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Imagine a Day Without Water provides a platform for educating the public and advocating for leaders to prioritize investing in water today.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cImagine a Day Without Water\u201d is an opportunity for diverse organizations, from environmental advocates to coffee shops, aquariums to car washes, city halls to water utilities, to talk about why water is important to them. \u201cWe’re thrilled that the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is a part of \u2018Imagine a Day Without Water.\u2019 This national day of action educates our neighbors and public officials about the essential role water plays in all of our lives,\u201d said Radhika Fox, CEO of the US Water Alliance and Director of the Value of Water Campaign. \u201cThis year showed us the critical importance of water service to safeguard public health and the economy. But the infrastructure and service it takes to bring water to our homes and businesses and take it away is not free and can\u2019t be taken for granted. We all need to educate ourselves about where our water comes from and the investment these critical systems need.\u201d<\/p>\n
