EPA Releases Water Utility COVID-19 Financial Impact Tool<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

EPA released a new tool to help water utilities assess the financial impact of COVID-19 on operations. Throughout the COVID-19 national health emergency\u2014and as communities across the country reopen\u2014water utilities have reliably provided safe drinking water and critical wastewater services. This new tool will help provide important information about the financial and operational health of water utilities, which play an integral role in protecting human health and the environment for our nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s important for water utilities to understand \u2013 as early as possible \u2013 how to carry out their responsibilities and plan reinvestment for their communities as local economies start to recover from COVID-19,\u201d said EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler. \u201cThis tool will support the financial resilience of water utilities today and into the future by providing in-depth insight into how operations during COVID-19 have affected their financial standing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Developed by EPA\u2019s Water Infrastructure and Resiliency Finance Center, the Water Utility COVID-19 Financial Impact Tool leads water utilities through questions that can determine how their revenues, expenses and cashflow have been affected. This tool will help water utilities understand the financial health as they plan for ongoing operation and maintenance and capital infrastructure needs, including implementing plans to repair, replace and modernize aging infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The Water Utility COVID-19 Financial Impact Tool can help drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater (\u201cwater\u201d) utilities assess the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the utility\u2019s cashflow.<\/p>\n

Use of the spreadsheet is voluntary and its results are provided for your information only. EPA is not collecting either the data entered by utilities nor the results. EPA is planning to send a separate survey to randomly selected utilities at another time.<\/em><\/p>\n
