PA-AWWA Operator Spotlight is on: Jesse LaVigne, Hatboro, Pennsylvania<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jess LaVigne of Hatboro, Pennsylvania,<\/p>\n

designed games and animation while at<\/p>\n

the same time instructing students in<\/p>\n

game development. Now he is training<\/p>\n

to be a water treatment operator<\/p>\n

at Downington Municipal Water<\/p>\n

Authority and plans to use his One<\/p>\n

AWWA Operator Scholarship from the<\/p>\n

Pennsylvania Section and Water Equation<\/p>\n

for courses in programmable logic<\/p>\n

controller (PLC) programming. (PLC is an<\/p>\n

industrial computer control system that<\/p>\n

continuously monitors the state of input<\/p>\n

devices and makes decisions based upon<\/p>\n

a custom program to control the state of<\/p>\n

output devices.) Jesse hopes to become a<\/p>\n

plant PLC technician.<\/p>\n


\n\u201cThis kind of training is a critical step<\/em><\/p>\n

forward, not only for me, but also for the<\/em><\/p>\n

water industry as a whole. Programmable<\/em><\/p>\n

controllers continue to play a growing role<\/em><\/p>\n

in our industry, especially for operators.<\/em><\/p>\n

It is vital that we grow our understanding<\/em><\/p>\n

of how these systems work so that we can<\/em><\/p>\n

make better decisions about how and<\/em><\/p>\n
